VENGABOYS ERUPT WITH POGO FILMS’ 3D

Pete BurnsPogo Films successfully undertook all FX work and online delivery to Stereoscopic 3D on the Vengaboys comeback track, “Rocket to Uranus”.

Brought in by director, Andy Soup at Spring 69, the promo is a high energy, effect laden romp of colour and comedy. Hollywood gossip blogger, Perez Hilton travels space to help the dance band’s liberation of a friendly planet whilst Celebrity, Pete Burns, plays an evil character who seeks to prevent them!

“…if you [are] thinking about making any sort of Stereoscopic film (and this science IS the most important step in cinemas evolution since recorded sound) then Pogo should be your first port of call.”; ANDY SOUP, Director

Youtube are hosting a free to view 2D version above, but a stereoscopic version available at the Vengaboys website

“When the bright idea of shooting ‘Rocket To Uranus’ in Stereoscopic 3D…popped into my naive, unprepared little mind, I had no idea what I was letting myself in for… Making Stereographic 3Dimensional films is an art and there is no magic button to press” says Andy Soup, Director.

He wanted the underlying theme of the promo to be high energy and fun. Colourist and Senior Editor, Jamie Dickinson worked with Pogo’s Rob Dixon to get through 84 consecutive cgi shots; Each one being multiple layers of Live action, model shoot, Computer 3D and composited backgrounds – All of these in stereoscopic 3D involving significant eye-balancing and tidying.

Pogo split the work between two suites, compositing through After Effects and then stereo-checking and delivering through their Quantel iQ. The finished result was delivered on HD-CAM SR and was released on June 6th.

“It has been a long and complicated job, but we completed it very effectively and most succesfully. All of our team have really proven themselves to be exceptional and i cannot wait to offer our services to an ever increasing roster of clients. I truly think they will be very lucky people indeed!” Says Philip Richardson, MD Pogo Films Ltd.

Pogo gets Fonejacked again

Fonejacker made a brief and happy return to Pogo Films, just in time to put its spin on the election.

Stereo 3D job for Johnson & Johnson

Since demonstrating our Stereo 3D belly dancing tutorial at BVE in February we have been very busy with various Stereo 3D projects. One of those being for Johnson & Johnson. The advertising agency, Them, commissioned a 3D stereoscopic film about contact lenses which have been specially developed for astigmatic patients.

The project was shot using a stereo rig (Supplied by Creation) at a variety of different locations. The offline was edited in 3D using Final Cut Pro with Jamie Dickinson editing the 4 minute film. The on-line was done on the Quantel Pablo with Victor Riva doing the grading and stereo. The final film is being shown at trade shows in Europe.

The Other Me

Pogo Films’ senior editor, Jamie Dickinson used the Quantel Pablo to grade, on-line and create the effects for the short which was directed by Nicola Mills and scripted by Mark Cowling. With the main character having a double in the film, Jamie was able to have fun in creating a variety of visual effects for this piece.

The Other Me was shot on super 16 mm and scanned as 2K .Dpx files for the Grade/Online. It is about to do its festival run and we all wish it good luck.

The other side of my sleep

The other side of my sleep

Teresa wants to die. She’s done everything a good catholic woman is meant to do and has taught her children the old Italian ways.

This half hour poignant drama is both touching and often funny as it explores the complexities of voluntary euthanasia. Set in North London, this displaced Italian family struggle with the cultural differences and the need to belong.

It was shot on the Canon D5 and lit by Phil Summers. The on-line and grade were done using the Quantel Pablo with Jamie Dickinson operating. Contro Vento Films were the Producer.

Spirit Level made a welcome return to Pogo Films, with their latest project “The Fear Factory”.

Take That: Backstage At The Circus

With all the latest scandal surrounding a member of the super-group we realised that we were remiss in not mentioning our involvement on the behind the scenes documentary that was filmed last year during the boy-bands sell-out tour.

The documentary for the ITV2 show, from Pulse Films was conformed, Graded and onlined by Jamie Dickinson, using the Quantel Pablo.

It was an insight into what really its like to be a “star” and perform in front of an audience of over 1 million people in 7 major UK cities, with footage shot both back and front of stage to keep the fans happy.
