Joy Division 26.October.2007

Grant Gee’s documentary on Joy Division, a post-punk UK band, has won itself the opening film slot at the Sheffield Documentary Festival, November 7th-11th. This is its European premiere and is also hot on the heels of a possible acquisition by The Weinstein Company. Confirmation pending.

Grant and Jerry Chater, offline editor, have worked with us on many occasions. Joe Haughey was our online editor and colourist. The material was once again of a great variety with archive footage from many sources. All of us at Pogo are delighted with Grant’s film and wish him success with sales!

Ministry of Truth 12.October.2007

commons"Idealistic, simplistic, or just plain “naive” as one MP described it, Symons’s journey to the heart of British democracy was utterly compelling. His method was brilliantly direct: get MPs to agree on camera that honesty was the very lynchpin of democracy – and then see how they reacted when he asked them to back a draft bill to criminalise lying by members of Parliament. "
Telegraph 12.October.2007

Joe Haughey worked very closely with Director, Richard Symons, to finalise the cut of this highly rated BBC 2 programme. Culminating with an online and grade to digi both were very happy with the look and the reverberations this show caused in the political arena.

THE LEGION: TOUGHER THAN THE REST 10.October.2007

Legion
ITV4's viewing figures got a boost for the first part of "The Legion: Tougher Than The Rest". This three part series explores the inside story to those in the French Foreign Legion. Director, Elisabeth Nord follows the extreme training of this fabled legion of soldiers. The shooting was carried out on HDV but the programmes draw from a number of sources to show the history and reality: Mobile phone footage, Digi, Beta SP and many more.

Pogo's Dave Berezai tackled these mixtures of sources in a complicated online which involved feeds from a number of offline suites. The grade was through Colour and has provided ITV with a vibrant and detailed series of programmes.

Gauche, Droit, Gauche, Droit, Gauche, Droit...
Eh! Vous, vous avec the chapeau blanc!

FONEJACKER ROCKS July 14.2007
CCuts

At the beginning of the year we were happy to meet with Jane at Hat Trick Productions. They were setting off on the fonejacker trail and wanted us to provide technical help and assistance and provide the online and grade.

fj2The project is a series of spoof phone calls from co-director Kayvan Novak. Animations and offline were all through FCP and by fellow director, Ed Tracy. Coupled with the calls, the animation and live action footage gives the series a Pythonesque feel.

The quantity and scale of the animations stretched FCP to the limit – and it held up. By the time the grade and online arrived at our door, our colourist and onliner, Joe Haughey was faced with a mammoth task of fixing, tweaking, conforming and grading to make the series look fantastic. His most recent quote emphasizes the scale and complexity of the job and is “…a *#$^ ache!”

Although destined for Channel 4 in September, “fonejacker” is presently on E4 on Thursdays at 22:30 and is attracting record audiences. So thank you to all at Hat Trick for the great challenge and to Joe for the late nights!

NEWSKNIGHT FX July 12.2007

CCutsITV 1 Sunday nights at 22:00 NewsKnight is ITV's satirical look at the current topics of the day. Regular inserts include current figures of the day modified in an ironic manner! It sounds dry but try this for size: brown gun clip

Dave and Will carried out the shoot using Pogo's facilities and the compositing was done using Shake by the fair hand of Dave. That's not using Dave's shaky hand, the other one. The one with the nice finger nails which he buffs regularly.

COMEDY CUTS January.2007

CCutsAt the end of January Pogo Films finished work on the new ITV2 comedy series "Comedy Cuts”. The fresh and edgy sketch show, featured 50 performers, shot in over 70 different locations, began its run on 18th January 2007.The offline and online edits were produced using Final Cut Pro HD. Fergus March headed the offline edit in-house and Pogo Film’s very own master of comedy Dave was responsible for the online & Joe used our Final Touch grading suite to create a strong visual impact for the 10 part series.Colourist Joe said of working on the project, "It was great to stretch the legs of Final Touch on a good broadcast series. Disciplines of time and delivery requirements gave us all a good run for our money, but we came out on top and there's no doubt that Final Touch comes up trumps. Wa-hay!" [Ed: Imagine the Wa-Hay to be very long and in a broad Irish accent.]
