PATRICK HEADS OFF 30.December.2006

Patrick leavesPatrick Featherstone is away. After more than a year of running for us, he has a seized a great opportunity to depart and work for Raw TV. We wish him all the very best for the future there and beyond.

Work with Patrick was stimulating and there has never been a quiet moment. We must thank him for his many runs, teas, bin and tedious duties and his recently acquired media handling talents; capturing, dvd encoding and general encoding - Thank you!

No matter what Raw throws up, we are sure that Patrick will be able to rise to the challenge and build his career in a new and exciting direction, starting promptly at nine each morning ;-)

IrmelaTo replace Patrick, we are pleased to welcome aboard Irmela from Germany. She was originally our intern but has happily agreed to come on board for the winter to help both ourselves and our clients. Good luck and happy new Year!

WELCOME TO POGO !

SPEED THRILLS! 04.October.2006

1What better respite from the sticky tedium of Soho summer heat than a road trip to Alton Towers? We all hopped into the Pogo Van and ran away for the weekend.

Lining our stomachs with enormous greasy breakfasts was the first stage in the proceedings. And as our first ride, Oblivion, entailed a vertical drop of several seconds, we were soon reminded of just how good those breakfasts were.

1Some rides left us wetter than others. Here we all are in a giant hairdryer after a particularly splashy number...

Some mysterious behaviour was demonstrated by Zlatka, who kept vanishing from the queue. One minute she was there, chatting away, the next thing she had hopped over the barriers and was coyly waving to us from the shrubbery, as we were strapped into the ride. This happened several times until we gave up and allocated her photographer. But what a fine job she did...

1Joe looking a little shell-shocked and slightly queasy after the trauma that was Spinball Whizzer.

Of course there could only be one way to complete such a day: an enormous slap-up meal accompanied by excessive drinking and merriness.

TOP GRADES! 12.September.2006

1Edit 4 is finally complete and it looks better than your mum. One of the three new suites on the 1st floor, Edit 4 is our new grading suite using the Final Touch colouring system with tangent controllers. These are made up of levers, spinney-ball things, flashing "Don't Press" buttons and other bits that give the whole room a sort of Space 1999 feeling, as well as the Tektronix signal monitoring which appears to measure the gravity of black holes.

The 18% grey air-conditioned environs with blackout blinds could make you feel like you were in one of these black holes, so we've installed a Panasonic 50" plasma more powerful than the sun.

To see if Final Cut Pro could rise to the challenge of handling a 2K project, we edited a 60 second commercial for the London Film School on it, which celebrates their fiftieth anniversary. The project was shot on Anamorphic 35mm film and digitally scanned by Technicolor to DPX files, then onlined and graded at Pogo using Final Touch 2K. The result was so breathtakingly beautiful I think we all shed a tear.

So, to summarise , Edit 4 is pretty snizzy-snazzy fancy pants, with enough screens to give you a tan.

ZLATKA ON THE BOOKS! 01.April.2006

1It struck us all recently that we had been very remiss in not introducing everybody to our accounts and book-keeping lady, Zlatka Jackin. She joined us at the close of 2005 and is in charge of all things books. If you're a supplier, she'll be asking for a balance, if you're a client, she'll be politely requesting payment!

Zlatka's financial background helps me (Phil) a great deal and the office is a happier place for her arrival. Welcome aboard, Zlatka!

STUART OFF TO PEPPER 30.March.2006

1Stuart Wilson, our Visual Effects artist, has departed Pogo for a position at Pepper Post. In the short time he was with us he was extremely helpful in a number of projects and primarily in the effects work of the Men and Motors re-brand and various arts projects with the Royal Opera House.

Stuart will be working on Flame and is expecting to be assisting in the effects work on major features handled by Pepper. We wish him all the very best for his future there and elsewhere and look forward to seeing his development. Thank you Stuart!

FELICITY JOINS POGO 06.January.2006

1Felicity Austin-Smith has joined us as Bookings Coordinator. Previously at London Post, she made the jump to our smaller ship in January. Her role here will be much more than just bookings. She’s intelligent, manages her time well and has had a strong input to our dynamic already – expect a tidy ship next time you are in!

We are still unsure of her favourite biscuit flavour but we are, as I write, trying to establish this fact. Will it be digestive, jammy dodger or ginger nut, you’ll have to wait and see.

PATRICK FEATHERSTONE ARRIVES 05.January.2006

1Patrick Featherstone, what can we say? This fine young gentleman has leapt aboard our ship and has very quickly established himself as an invaluable (so don’t try) runner. He’s very friendly, intelligent and willing to be of assistance. With no fear or hesitation we say “Hello and welcome, Patrick"
